Re: [Salon] DEADLINE EXTENSION: Fall 2022 Speechwriters Fellowship (Oct. 7-10)

This should be of interest to any aspiring speech writers for Trump, or Trumpites, at lower echelons, to get your feet in there door, or those whom one may know. I’m not trying to tout Claremont but just sharing some of the preparation/development work they do. Open the link and see a nice picture of everybody’s favorite Straussian, Michael Anton. Sorry if this is a bother to some people but what is more important to know for politics, than the ideological development of the “ideas” which politicians then put into policy? As in "Ideas Have Consequences.” And Trumpism begins here, and Hillsdale, and Dallas, et al.

Dear Friend,

Applications for the 2021 Speechwriters Fellowship have been EXTENDED to Friday, August 5, 2022.

The dates for the 2022 Speechwriters Fellowship are: October 7-10.

We welcome applications from past, current, or aspiring speechwriters in the areas of politics, federal & state government, business, tech, and several other fields.

Founded in 2017, the Claremont Speechwriters Fellowship combines an education in the principles of the American Founding with a study of modern political speech craft.

From October 7-10, fellows will engage in a theoretical and rhetorical study of the dominant political themes that continue to animate the American political debate today: America’s founding principles, natural law, equality, American identity, globalism, multiculturalism, identity politics, and the administrative state—all with the aim of equipping fellows with the tools for a robust defense of the American Way of Life.

Classes will be led by a combination of Claremont scholars and former presidential speechwriters.

Past fellows include speechwriters for President Donald J Trump, chief speechwriters for the Secretaries of Treasury, State, Justice, Defense, Housing and Urban Development, Environmental Protection Agency, as well as speechwriters for members of the Leadership in both the House and Senate. View the complete list of the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020and 2021 fellows.

As Abraham Lincoln wisely observed, “Public sentiment is everything. With public sentiment, nothing can fail; without it, nothing can succeed.” This program is created for the purpose of providing the missing argument in the battle to win public sentiment by teaching and promoting the principled reasoning of our Founding and the statesmanship required to vindicate that reasoning in public speech and, ultimately, in practice.

As always, thank you for your support in making this program—and all of our programs—a success.

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, please contact Annalyssa Lee: alee@claremont.org.

P.S. – Please help us spread the word by sharing this email and sending us your recommendations.

Testimonials
"The Fellowship could not have been a more valuable experience. It struck the perfect balance between serious study of first principles, practical advice from veteran writers, and opportunities to talk and compare notes with peers from across the government."
– Chief Speechwriter, Senator Mitch McConnell

"[The Claremont Speechwriters Fellowship] connected older traditions with a newer, younger generation charged with maintaining them. It served as a bridge between experienced speechwriters and newbies to the profession, and between scholars and those working in specific political offices. And it has helped me navigate on-the-job traffic that results any time pragmatism, personalities, and principles jockey for room at the writing table."
– Speechwriter, Department of State

"Claremont has brought decades of academic and professional Speechwriting experience to bear in this wonderful course which tracks both the development of American political thought and the practical challenges with communicating these convictions to the American people."
– Former Chief Speechwriter, Department of Housing and Urban Development
The mission of the Claremont Institute is to restore the principles of the American Founding to their rightful, preeminent authority in our national life.
